Volunteer Host

Looking for a new challenge that will make a real difference to your local community this summer?

ellenor has a brand-new exciting volunteering role from July 2021.


As a Host, you will be the first point of contact for patients, their guests, and other visitors to the hospice. Always wearing a friendly smile, you’ll be there to greet and guide, lend a listening ear and be on-hand to carry out support tasks. No day is ever the same!

Location: ellenor Northfleet

Hours: from 4 hrs per week

Times: 09:00-13:00 and 13:00-17:00

Days: Saturdays

As a host, you will also be able to serve patients and customers at our Café. This is a great opportunity to start your volunteering journey at ellenor.

Volunteer Kitchen Porter

Location: ellenor Northfleet
Hours: from 3 hrs per day (7 days available)
Times: 11:00-14:00
Days: Monday- Sunday

Role:

We are seeking some dedicated and compassionate Volunteer Kitchen Porters to join our team at a hospice. As a Volunteer Kitchen Porter, you will play a crucial role in supporting the day-to-day operations of our hospice kitchen, ensuring a clean and organized environment that promotes the well-being of our patients, families, and staff. Your commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene will contribute to the overall comfort and satisfaction of those under our care.

Some key traits you will need as a Volunteer Porter:

  • Washing dishes: ensuring that all items are thoroughly cleaned and sanitised.
  • Cleaning and sanitising surfaces: Kitchen porters clean and sanitise countertops, workstations, and preparation areas to maintain a hygienic environment.
  • Disposal of kitchen waste, including food scraps and packaging materials, into designated bins.
  • Assisting with food preparation: There may be an involvement in basic food preparation tasks, such as peeling vegetables, chopping ingredients, handling and distributing food. 
  • Emptying and cleaning trash bins: Regularly emptying and cleaning trash bins throughout the kitchen area, including recycling and compost bins, to maintain cleanliness and prevent odours.
  • Adhering to health and safety regulations at all times.

Volunteer Family Support Worker

Location: ellenor Hospice, Gravesend

Hours: Minimum of 3 per week

Times: Flexible (Between 09:00 – 17:00)

Days: Flexible (Monday – Friday and some Saturdays.

Do you have a few hours to spare each week and have the passion and dedication to help our Family Support Team ensure the delivery of high quality emotional and psychological support to our clients? We are excited to be expanding and developing our Family Support Service, and we are seeking to recruit empathic, compassionate individuals to provide support to patients and their families under the care of ellenor.

Your time will help our hospice to provide support and a safe haven to those who need it most. This is a wonderful opportunity to give back and be part of an amazing team!

The Role

As a Volunteer Family Support Worker, you will provide support to adult clients who are under the care of ellenor by.

  • Working within the Family Support Service to ensure that we are providing high quality care and support to clients
  • Working with clients to support their emotional and psychological needs when dealing with difficult situations and life circumstances including caring responsibilities, bereavement and life-limiting diagnoses.
  • Communicating important information regarding client care with substantive Family Support Workers to ensure a collaborative approach within the team e.g. safeguarding concerns are raised, key information is presented at MDT meetings
  • Attending regular meetings with our Family Support Workers (once per month minimum) to discuss your caseload and to ensure you are supported within your role
  • You will be required to attend one hour’s Clinical Supervision per month

  • Ability to work independently while completing your tasks, with a willingness to work within, contribute to and become a valuable member of the team
  • Good IT skills (to ensure record-keeping is maintained effectively on our systems)
  • Committed and dedicated

Please note to volunteer in the hospice applicants must be over the age of 18, have the right to volunteer in the UK and require a Enhanced DBS.

This is not a paid role.
