This Children’s Hospice Week, we’re celebrating three lovely members of our Children’s Team - Emma, Daisy and Laura.
They bring care, comfort and moments of play into the homes of children with life-limiting conditions across North Kent and Bexley. Their work goes far beyond medical support, pain management, and symptom control. They also create sensory and creative activities that bring smiles, joy, and calm to the children they care for. Through their support, they help children feel safe and comforted, while giving families the precious time and space they need to rest, recharge, and simply be together.
Daisy and Laura are both Children’s Care Assistants on ellenor’s respite team supporting children aged 0 – 18 years old in their own homes. Together they bring energy, creativity and compassionate care to every visit. Whether it’s messy play, sensory activities, exciting days out or creating special memories, they bring joy, calm and reassurance to every visit. They also provide vital hands-on clinical support - administering medication, managing seizures, assisting with gastrostomy feeding and use art and sensory equipment to help children relax, communicate, and reduce anxiety.
Emma has been with ellenor for over a decade beginning her journey as a Healthcare Assistant and training on the job to become a Nursing Associate. Emma leads the respite team, manages the rota for patients, and supports nurses with clinical tasks such as passing nasogastric tubes, taking blood samples, and assisting with syringe drivers. Beyond her leadership duties, Emma helps the respite team during crisis situations, always ready to step in whenever extra support is needed. Her warmth and expertise bring reassurance to families and help make medical care feel calmer and more comfortable.
Now, all three are heading off on maternity leave - ready to begin the next exciting chapter in their lives. We’re so excited for them... but wow, will we MISS THEM. Thank you for everything you’ve done to support the children, their families, and even their siblings under ellenor’s care. For every visit, every hug, and every home you’ve been part of - you’ve made a difference that will never be forgotten.
