National Inclusion Week 2025 – 15–21 September

What is NIW?

National Inclusion Week is an annual event that seeks to raise awareness of the importance of inclusion in the workplace. It's a time to involve everyone - regardless of background - to celebrate diverse communities.

Now is the time

This year's theme is 'Now is the Time', encouraging organisations to take immediate action towards building more inclusive workplaces, with an emphasis on diversity, inclusion, urgency, resilience and the need to push forward

Our  Cultural Awareness Calendar

At ellenor, we are welcoming of our community of people from different cultures, faiths, and backgrounds. Understanding, recognising and acknowledging the important events in each other’s lives helps us create a more inclusive, respectful, and supportive environment.

Our Cultural Awareness Calendar is designed to highlight key religious festivals, awareness days, and cultural events throughout the year.

We invite all staff and volunteers to use this calendar as a tool for learning and inclusion at ellenor.

This calendar aims to raise awareness of celebrations and festivals we might not otherwise have known about, so it's not an exhaustive list. For a calendar of all events.

Make a pledge to Inclusivity at ellenor!

National Inclusion Week is about turning good intentions into positive action. At ellenor, we are asking each staff member and volunteer to make a personal pledge… a small step you can take to help make our hospice an even more inclusive, welcoming place for all!

Make a pledge to Inclusivity at ellenor!

  • I pledge to take time to learn about a colleague’s culture, faith, or background.

  • I pledge to use inclusive language when speaking with colleagues, patients, and families.

  • I pledge to challenge bias or stereotypes when I see them.

  • I pledge to make sure team meetings are welcoming and everyone has the chance to contribute.

  • I pledge to support new volunteers so they feel part of the ellenor family.

  • I pledge to learn more about accessibility and how we can better support people with disabilities.

Why inclusion matters at ellenor

Here at ellenor, we believe that that everyone’s story matters.

Inclusivity creates a workplace and volunteer community where every individual feels valued and respected, which ultimately strengthens our ability to deliver truly compassionate care.

We value the individuality and uniqueness that each staff member and volunteer bring to their role, with the diversity enriching teamwork that enables us to learn from each other.

Please do take the time to read the stories of our very own staff and volunteers below , produced by our very own talented storyteller and writer Basia.
