What our volunteers say:

  • “One of the most rewarding thing about volunteering for the ellenor is the sense that you are part of a community and that through that you are able to help people when they are going through a difficult time.  One of the best things about volunteering with the Financial Support Team is the satisfaction you get when you've helped someone access a benefit that you know is going to make a little bit of difference to their life.” - Finance Support Team volunteers

  • “When answering the phones I feel that I can hopefully make a difference to people calling in by being kind and listening. I have over 30 years of experience of customer service to fall back on and really enjoy the ‘work’ and the company of the team.

I would like to feel that I can make a difference with my help now in the event that anyone close to me (or myself) needs the help of ellenor in the future.

No one moment stands out really. I do enjoy learning new things and getting to know more about the service and how it works. I also like the different admin tasks.” – Hazel Clarke, Admin Assistant

  • “When a client asked if she could just sit next to me and for her to hold my hand. It gave me a sense of well-being knowing that she felt she could ask me and I could give that comfort to her.” - Befriender

  • “The most rewarding aspect of volunteering is helping vulnerable persons in the community to be able to attend the hospice for them to meet other patients and for the nurses to help regulate their medication and enjoy lunch then take them home afterwards.

The important difference is to be able to help patients by collecting them from their homes to attend the hospice and nice for me to meet different people

Volunteering is very rewarding; it gives me a sense of self-satisfaction knowing I am helping in a small way.

The moment that stands out for me during volunteering was being able to collect and return home the patients who are less mobile and would have been unable to attend the hospice.” – Patient Driver
