Twilight Walk - Important Information

Join us from 6pm at Cyclopark, DA11 7NP

Warm up: 6.45pm

Walk: 7pm

Finish: Cyclopark closes at 10.30pm - all walkers to finish by this time. 

Parking: Parking at Cyclopark is £1.50 in cash. Cyclopark have not charged us for the use of their facilities and we are grateful for their ongoing support of this event. 

Parking at Morrison's is restricted to 3 hours and enforced with ANPR cameras.

Parking is not permitted at the hospice.  These spaces are reserved for visitors of our patients and our care team.

Tickets

Tickets: Your T-shirts are your tickets and you will not need to do anything else when you arrive!

If you have not been able to collect your T-shirts yet, you will be able to collect T-shirts from 6pm at the event on the day.

Route Guidance

This year there is only one distance and route. There will be signage and marshals to support you on the way, but it is important that you check your directions regularly.

Roads will not be closed, so you will need to take care when crossing.  Not all of the roads crossings are accessible for wheelchairs and you may need to find an alternative nearby crossing point.

There will be refreshments in Gravesend at the Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar and at our shop on Pelham Road South. They will also have toilets available.  You must not smoke or consume alcohol at the Gurdwara.  This includes their entire site.  We respectfully ask that you abstain while visiting there during this event.    

Pubs along the route know that this event is taking place. Look out for 'Proudly Supporting ellenor' banners as these pubs have expressly given their permission for walkers to use their facilities.

The event is expected to close at 10.30pm. Walkers still out on the course at 10.00pm or who need support to finish on time, may be picked up by a recovery vehicle. 

There are marshals along the route.  They are there to help you and keep you safe.  If you see any incidents, accidents or struggling walkers, or need help yourself, please let them know.

Staying Safe

Please ensure that you check the weather forecast before the event and dress appropriately, including sensible footwear and waterproof clothing if needed.

Some parts of the route, although they are lit, are still quite dark. You may choose to bring a torch for this.

Please do not walk with headphones as this will affect your ability to hear any marshal instructions or emergency vehicles, and could put you and other walkers in danger. 

There will be marshals along all the major crossing points of this route.  Please report any concerns to them if you encounter any issues and remain with them if needed.

Walking with Children

If you are walking with young people who have a mobile phone, please check that their phones are fully charged and that they have the contact details they need to get hold of you.

There will be a lot of walkers all wearing the same T-shirt.  So it is essential that children should be accompanied at all times by a parent, guardian or responsible adult.  Under 16s are not permitted to take part in the walk without an accompanying adult.

We have wristbands for you to write your contact number on for younger walkers.  These are available from our team on the night as you walk in, at registration and at various points around the track.

Meeting Points

The registration areas can be used as a meeting point. Team members there will be able to help you if you have been separated from your young walkers.  Please make sure your younger walkers know that this is a safe location.

On the Walk

If you get separated during the walk, please call Leah (Event Control) on 07467 915 451

There are marshals along our route who will also be a safe location for your young people to wait for you to come to them.  Our marshals will call us and we will be able to update you on the location of your younger walker.

Medals

Our Twilight Walk is circular and you will receive your medal as you return to Cyclopark.

This year, we have recycled left over medals from previous events. This means you may notice that your medal is a slightly different design to other walkers.

We would like to thank our incredible team of volunteers who have helped us to sew ribbons onto our medals. We wouldn't have been able to do this without them!

Sponsorship

There will be an area in our marquee where you will be able to drop off any cash or cheques you have received in sponsorship of your walk.

We're so grateful to every one who has set up their JustGiving pages.  We aim to raise £75,000 from these events to pay for the care and support we give to families living with life limiting illness.  

It's not too late to set up a page and is an easy way to ask family, friends and your network to support you.

T-shirts and Headboppers

T-shirt collection opens at 6pm at Cyclopark. 

We will also have some additional merchandise including glow sticks, bunny ears and bags available to purchase. 

There is space for you to write messages on the back of your T-shirt.  Many people taking part in this walk do it in memory of a loved one. If you haven't had the chance to write your messages on the back of your T-shirts, there will be a dedicated space in the marquee with permanent markers for you to use.

Photography

Our photographers will be at both of our events and around the route taking photos and videos. We will add these photos to a Facebook album as soon as we can after the event.  Please let us know if you do not consent to having your picture taken or use of your close up image for future event promotions and we will give you a sticker to wear.

We'd love to see your photos too! We have a Facebook Group called Fundraising with ellenor Hospice which you can join and add your photos.

Covid-19 Information

Our event will comply with all government COVID-19 restrictions. 

There may be some people taking part in our walk, living with life limiting illness so it is important that we take some additional measures.

  • If you have a cough, high temperature or other COVID-19 symptoms, you must not attend. Similarly, you should not attend if you have had any of these symptoms within the previous 14 days.  
  • Hand sanitisers will be available around the Cyclopark and the Gurdwara for your use.  You may want to consider bringing your own for when you are out on the route.
  • Anti-bacterial wipes will be available for use on our Selfie Station for you to wipe down the props.
  • Our event takes place outdoors.  We have one well ventilated marquee area for T-shirt collections and on the night registration.
  • You can register using cash, but where possible we would prefer you to pay using cards.  Card machines will be sanitised after each use.
  • To protect vulnerable participants, we politely ask you to consider wearing face masks in crowded areas, including the start line.  
  • There will be signage around Cyclopark to remind us to give each other the space to socially distance ourselves.
