How we work

ellenor is recognised as the local ‘expert in caring for people with palliative care needs and for those who are dying’. Our focus is enabling people to be cared for and die in their own homes or in nursing homes with care supported and coordinated by our specialist teams.

Our Inpatient Ward functions as an ‘acute’ unit for the care of patients with complex symptoms requiring close monitoring or frequent changes in medication.

ellenor provides symptom management through our specialist palliative care, multidisciplinary teams of Doctors, Nurses and other professionals. We provide information, delivered skilfully in a clear manner to assist individuals in making decisions and offers advocacy support to help to make choices a reality.

ellenor provides social, emotional and spiritual support and advice for patients, children, families and carers. Counselling and bereavement care is available both for individuals, family members and carers.

ellenor is a major provider of children’s hospice care and respite care for babies, children and young adults with palliative and life-threatening care needs. In addition we provide a specialist nursing service to children undergoing cancer treatment. Through a comprehensive and well developed transition service, ellenor supports young people to move into the adult services.

Working with Primary Care, community health teams and hospital staff and others, we seek to contribute to an improved experience for all individuals at the end of life, through partnership working, training, support and coordination.

Regardless of diagnosis patients with complex palliative care needs have access to ellenor specialist service delivering high quality care across the whole range of settings. This advice, care and support is offered across all ages, 24/7.

We seek to influence End of Life and Palliative Care policy and collaborate with the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and others to provide public information to raise awareness of end of life issues, choices and the care and support available. ellenor offers training and support to health and social care professionals in the theory and practice of palliative care.

We have a commitment to share expertise to influence and support emerging palliative care organisations in the UK and internationally.
